Art 212: Teaching in a Digital Art Studio
DIGITAL STUDIO MINI PORTFOLIO
1D: understands properties of two- and three-dimensional space and of the fourth dimension, time.
2D: collaborates with other arts specialists in developing interrelated artworks.
Description: This music video and stop motion animation were made collaboratively with two other art specialists in my Teaching in a Digital Art Studio class. The before and after photos to the left were repaired in Photoshop.
Rationale: When creating the videos, we worked collaboratively on each step of the process, but we each specialized in a different step in the making of the videos. I was the cinematographer, so I decided the camera shots that we took and filmed most of the scenes. We created a story board to map out exactly how the story was going to develop over the course of the video and then decided on where and how to film these scenes. The before and after images of the antique photo show my ability to manipulate images in Photoshop.

PERSONAL LOGO AND ARTIST STATEMENT
5B: understands how visual arts function in commercial applications (e.g., mass media, environmental and product design).
Description: My personal logo is an umbrella with “Vanitas Studios” written around the handle. My first name is April, so the umbrella hearkens back to the old saying of “April showers bring May flowers.” Vanitas is another word for vanity, which was a common theme in some of my favorite paintings from the Dutch Golden Age.
Rationale: When designing this logo I knew I had to think about legibility. In order to have a recognizable brand in mass media you need to a recognizable symbol. I chose "Vanitas Studios" because it sounds catchy and unique. My logo can be seen at the end of my collaborative music video to the song I Ran by Flock of Seagulls. At the end of the video people can see my logo and search “Vanitas Studios” for more of my work.
